Since he was pretending to make a pirate ship, I did ask him if it was a plank, but he insisted that, no, it was a diving board. I think he still misunderstands that portion of pirate knowledge and I didn't have the energy to explain and then answer the subsequent related questions that it would spark all through the following week. He did jump off of it into the "water" a number of times.
Somewhat related, James, Nate and I were all on the ship Sunday morning (Sara was sleeping in), when Nate notified us that a big storm was coming in. After a brief bit of panic to secure our provisions and scramble for cover, Nate told us that it would be okay, he was the captain and he'd take care of it. He boldly went to the "diving board", jumped off of it into the water, and went, "shhhhhhhh", which calmed the storm.
